Now find even quieter diesel generators on www.Generators.co www.EmergencyPower.com www.AuroraGenerators.com www.Generators.to - Discussion Forums Remote Start Silent Diesel Generator 6500 Watt - Aurora makes the highest quality available anyplace. Perfect for emergency home power generation. They call them "quiet" but that's because in comparison to traditional open frame type generators they make a lot less noise. Today the 2010 and 2011 models have EPA Tier 4 approval. Because of this they produce no smoke and burn much less fuel. On average 3.9 gallon fuel tank lasts up to 12 hours.

@younitehumanity Hard to answer that one. Too much difference between normal automotive diesel and bio diesels. Lube properties and flash points are very important.
I run my car on 70% diesl fuel and 30% filtered waste motor oil. Do you think this generator will be able to do the same?
Very cool--diesel is the sh**
@auroraron These aren't even close to "not very loud", let alone "silent". Once you get these down in the 58-59db range of the honda inverter generators, I think you would be safe using the term "silent".
how much its cost ?
How reliable are these generators?
What is the expected operating hours before rebuild?
Thanks
@qwertzu3 Portable Diesel Generators ar often 76 db in noise. The enclosed ones like this are under 69 db. The term "Silent" has been used in the industry for many years. If you compare 76 db to 69 db then you too would call it "Silent" It would be better to call them Silenced rather then Silent but we can't change the world and how people refer to them.
u could run it off vegtable oil haaha
@auroraron The life of the engine could be vastly extended by not starting from cold & going straight up to full power revs. Although I understand that is the tough life of a generator engine. They reckon 90% of the wear in any engine occurs in the first 5 minutes after a cold start, as the components work their way up to working temperature tolerances. Is this a Hyundai 10 hp diesel?
I wouldn't exactly call it silent, but it's a damn sight quieter than some of the generators I've heard. Can it be run on biodiesel?
aaaand... how loud are the "not silent" ones?
That's a pretty queer definition of "silent" you have there.
@InsaneVender LOL YUP. There is not one single company making portable diesel generators in north america. Too many cheap rednecks bitch about made in china but are not willing to pay double for made in the USA. Only gas is made in the USA by Generac but their shares just dropped this last 1/4 and sales are down. Too bad they don't have diesel either.
@Jthumper Portable Generators run at 3600 RPM. Larger water cooled units run at 1800 RPM. You cant find a portable water cooled generator.
@MastaF0035 All portable diesels you will find are 3600 RPM. Life is on average 1500 - 2000 hours on this brand, 500 hours less on others. Using synthetic oil makes a difference.
@fastmaxx400 EmergencyPower dot (com) all the parts are available and can be purchased online
Where would you get parts for a generator like this? I would have no trouble buying one if I knew when it broke I would be able to fix it.
sounds like its running much to fast for a diesel, sounds almost like a gasser's 3600 rpm engine.
How long until they have run out of diesel?
Definitely not silent but quiet yes
Can it run on veggie oi! Yes it can. You sell your sunflower oil at the farmer's market, and use the cash to buy diesel from Shell!!
Yes. You sell your sunflower seed oil at the farmers market, and use the money to buy diesel from Shell!
Is that a Yanmar 1 cylinder diesel in there?
I want one...! how much does it cost?
Black smoke is from unburned fuel. The engine under full load does not bog down and runs normally never leaving any unburned fuel. There is also a catalytic converter that helps reduce emission. I think your experiences are with other brands. We have the coolest running and the highest quality we can manufacture. We now have CSA approval also and that is something no other manufacture has been able to do.
I thought that the video is about someone, who made a generator out of a deuce and half engine.
@RichardEllisxyz We do have a nice tow package that we designed to bolt on using the existing holes, works really well. take alook at our website Thanks
You guys should mount that unit on a nice tandem trailer for "In the field" work.
Perhaps as an optional extra?? Haven't visited your site..perhaps you do offer that already!
Why do I get the impression that thing will last forever? Hmmm? Perhaps its because Its made to last ...Not like that throwaway junk units they sell nowadays!
Beautiful gen set...Gotta love the DETROIT 🙂
My uncle has a semi that has the Detroit 8v71..it's got over a million miles on it and still running strong...Detroits have definitely made their mark and they are certainly here to stay...Long Live DETROIT
I am familiar with the 1 lunger 1-71 and you are spot on , they are awesome....every now again I see one. Thanks Jeff
Do you ever get the rare 1-71 which is 1/2 of a Duece? There are some running ones out there and some here on YouTube. Hear one and you'll go totally apeus over it.
Your research should also indicate that Mr Jeff Matkin purchased the railroad generator set business from Tim Hess the new owner of Emerson Diesel in 1995 which is now Cascade Diesel. Also Matkin has been instrumental in keeping this genset package from the becoming obsolete. It is one thing to design and build a product and another to believe in and invest millions to keep it going. Thank you. Jeff Matkin
Thousands of units were designed and original built for the railroads providing power to refrigeration units by Emerson Detroit Diesel at Seattle WA plant on Marginal Way. The units are found all over the world. Most where built in the late 60's and 70's. Rock solid units, built by one of the most respected names in power generation. Note: Matkin is not part of the Emerson Detroit Diesel Family that designed and built these units. Quality of the power is dependant on voltage regulation. PGE
absolutely true...you also need to mention that these engines have removable liners and are almost infinitely rebuildable... Mr. Kettering cooked up a very good engine..
We have a silencer and also a enclosure that we developed that really knocks down the noise, also with some service the oil leaks are not a problem. The enclosure will be on our website with in the next 30 days. Thanks for the input
We have 3-71 and 4-71 Detroit 30-40-50KW. Thanks Jeff
this is the unit used for decades in railroad refrigerator cars...they're loud, they sling oil, and chug along almost forever..
Do you get into other models of Detroit Diesel "71" series engine generators, or just the 2-71 as shown here?
Just like to add, that for 24/7 generator power you might want to consider propane or natural gas instead of diesel.
found your website - will contact u in future
We have a silencer replaces the muffler your cost $472.01 and a enclosed trailor options I can e mail pictures and price, send your email and we are located in Pocatello ,Idaho USA
running 24/7... can the deuce safely power sensitive electronic equipment (ie. computers?) do you offer a noise silencing case for it? where are you located? thx
ps about my residental question: was more curious than serious about running it in a residental area--but the genny wouldnt be used in a residental area although im still interested in silencing it to the best of my abilities due to my 24/7 needs.
Hello are you going to be running this unit all the time or just for standby? If it's standby you might setup a co-op with your neighbors to share your power at a reasonable cost and I would bet they will putup with the noise to have power, also we have silencer options for the "The Deuce", is yours a detroit diesel? A brick enclosure works well, wood insulated like a big dog house or bales of hay or straw stacked around( I would only do this for diesel units). Hope this helps> Thanks Jeff
The "Deuce" runs at 1200 rpm and produces 36HP,generations of power!
can anyone tell me if its realistic to run say a 25kw deisel generator in a residental area without bothering the neighbors....?? provided the correct sound damping materials (ie. insulated shed with exhaust surrounding the genny)
Awesome genset, no doubt! I don't need one and I still want one..lol Doing some math, I do know that the 8v71 detroit produced 318 horsepower, and I think something on the order of 950 lb feet of torque. So, if a "Deuce" can be de tuned to produce 20KW , that means roughly 30 horsepower. At that rate of detuning, the 8v71 would only produce 120 hp or so, so, running at 1200 rpm , I can see where the Deuce might well run for a decade non stop without wearing out.
We have had these last for 20 years between overhauls also. Instead of buying the Listers you need one of these. Thanks for your input. Jeff
Railroad refer car generators. I ran a Witte refer generator for 20 years. 40,000 hr engine. cant get parts for it anymore. on my third Lister Petier.
Thats great.
the inline 2-71 detroit go up to 6-71
